SparkWhyz is a youth-led fire prevention initiative in Laguna Beach supporting fireworks safety, wildfire prevention, student education, responsible decision-making, and community action.
SparkWhyz was created to support fire prevention in Laguna Beach by helping young people understand the risks of illegal fireworks, wildfire ignition, injury, property loss, and preventable emergencies.
Working with the Laguna Beach Fire Department connects our youth-led outreach with experienced professionals who understand the fire risks facing our community.
Together, we can help students understand why illegal fireworks are dangerous, how quickly fires can spread, and why prevention matters in a community surrounded by dry hillsides, neighborhoods, and open space.

View Turn-In CoveragePrevention begins with clear, practical, and memorable information.
A fire does not need to begin with a large explosion. One spark can ignite dry grass, landscaping, trees, rooftops, or nearby debris.
Fireworks can cause burns, hand injuries, eye injuries, property damage, wildfires, and dangerous emergency responses.
A single decision can endanger neighbors, firefighters, animals, homes, schools, and an entire community.
Meeting firefighters and hearing real safety guidance can make prevention more personal and memorable.
Students can learn how fires begin, why certain conditions are dangerous, and what firefighters experience when responding to preventable emergencies.
Fire-safety professionals can help students understand the real consequences of fire, emergency response, evacuation, and prevention.
